Between the “Flawless Remix”, her feature on Juicy J’s “Low”, and her new vivacious single “Anaconda”, it’s unequivocally been Nicki Minaj’s week. It’s not the most subtle track, but it does execute its premise very well (assuming that premise is going viral). Not all music needs to be as overt and grandiose, though. In fact, some times the real thrill in discovering new music is how it effects you months down the road, after all the nuances and characteristics of the track have finally shown through. The following list of songs will be sure to provide you more of a sustainable impact.

As the weeks pass by, it’s incredible to see the disparity between the types of music on these lists. In one corner, we have an artist who operates on the fringe, using those moments in subtle, off-key situations as a means of insight. In the other corner is an artist who looks for something pure and honest and, however heartbreaking, relates it as sincerely as possible. Different sides of the spectrum are present all over these lists. From garage rock to gritty rap to whatever happened at James Blake house, there is only one constant: variety. Check out the diverse collection of songs below.

In American Beauty, there’s a quote from the protagonist that says: “Sometimes I feel like I'm seeing it all at once, and it's too much, my heart fills up like a balloon that's about to burst. And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life.” Taken out of context, it’s clear (well, maybe not) that he’s talking about the rush one gets when discovering the fantastic new song. Over the past week, we’ve been treated to enough music to assuredly be able to provide at least one song that can evoke that beauty.

Let’s be honest here, this week belongs to Weird Al. There was really no need to even put a list together. That being said, we did it anyways but we left out the Weird Al because it simply wasn’t fair to everyone else. From a pop star cementing themself in an ever-changing landscape, to the return of a brilliant, forgotten artist, to a certain artist’s influence having a positive effect on an aimless band. Regardless of Weird Al’s dominance on mainstream music, this week was still pretty great. Check out the 10 best songs of the week below.

This week’s selection is all about the mysterious. From those we never hear about to those we hear about but are seldom seen, this week’s seen some reclusive crawl out of their shells and drop some pretty distinct music. It’s not just the hermits that have surfaced though, as one prominent band has decided to take a stab at making music again, not that their crazy fan base is complaining. Regardless of the size of the band or the level of introversion, this week’s list had some absolute gems.

This week has been a little unorthodox. With The Presets releasing their new track in a manner centered around an interactive cube, to Jay-Z returning from whatever funk he was in to deliver the verse of the week, to Pusswhip Banggang somehow still thriving despite that atrocious name. Regardless of how unusual this week may have been, the result is still a distinct mess of fantastic music. Once you get “The Star-Spangled Banner” out of your system this fourth of July weekend, comb through this list for some truly astonishing music.
